Nolita Grants
Sponsorship for in-person trad-egal Jewish events in Central Brooklyn for the broader Nolita Minyan community.
We’d like to announce a new program: Nolita Grants. Over the next 6 months we’ll allocate three $1,000 grants to anyone, or any group, who’s interested in hosting a new event for our community. What are the in-person Jewish events you want to see in Central Brooklyn that you’ve been thinking about, but haven’t had the money for?
For background, Nolita has grown greatly over the past 6 years. Throughout that time we’ve experimented with things beyond davening and dinner, including speakers, a learning series with Hadar, open beit midrash, challah baking, a tisch, partnering with the Gathering, volunteering with Knock Knock Give a Sock, and of course an electric minyan.
But the potential to pursue more experiments has been limited by the bandwidth and creativity of the organizers. We are confident there are other amazing ideas floating around the community and would love to hear them from you!
We don’t have strict guidelines, but here’s a list of general criteria that we’re considering:
Types of events: social, educational, community service, artistic, musical
Free and open to the entire community
Weeknight or weekend
Can start small and if there’s traction can grow, but also ok if it’s a one off
Ideally a standalone event, but can also be an addition to an existing Nolita event, e.g. we should be doing something else at minyan / open beit midrash
Don’t think of this as a checklist, so if you have an idea which matches some, but not all of these suggestions, please still email us.
You don’t have to have fully formed ideas or proposals. Some of our best ideas started out as just that (“if Dylan could go electric, Nolita Minyan could too!”)
To apply, send an email to grants@nolitaminyan.com with a paragraph describing what you’d like to do, where and when it should take place, and a rough budget.
We’ll review the request with the organizers and will respond to set up a call to discuss more within 2 weeks. If the grant is something we’d like to do, a Nolita organizer will work with you to refine the idea and help put it on!
This is yet another one of our experiments, so bear with us as we figure things out.
We’re excited to invite you in to experiment with us,
Etan, Gideon, Marty, Talia, and Tamar
